The day a Spider got one heck of a headache……!
Now a little background to this story before it unfolds….
Every afternoon generally sees Mandy and myself head the nine odd kilometres from our home up to our horse paddocks where we had six horses grazing…
On the property we have a lovely big hayshed with a large overhang out the front that is neat to stand under on wet days and just watch the horses come up for there daily yummy individual feed of warm crushed barley and oats… they love it…
Now away back where this story unfolded Mandy and I used to own a very old Nissan ute, that was road legal but only basically used to cart bales of hay and horse feed, and take smelly horse covers etc.. it was never cleaned except as this day turned out during wet inclement weather and this was also our transport too and from the horse paddock…
Having been around horses most of our adult life, one thing one very quickly learns is if a vehicle is parked anywhere where horses can access it, they might not steal it and drive off like one may have seen on earlier TOYOTA tv adds where the two bulls did so….. but they are very good at sidling up to a car and giving for example one of your window screen wipers a pull in their teeth to see how far it can bend back before snapping off.. o great, or the time I stopped the old ute beside the hay shed and had climbed up the stack to throw a couple bales of hay down to throw in the ute to all of a sudden hear a slow drawn out scrapping noise and then a small bang…… looking over the side here Mr Cons ( One of our more inquisitive types ) had decided to try and squeeze between ute and the hay shed….. walking from the back up to the front, which was just wide enough for him until he reached that jutty out thing called a wing mirror…. now being a ground mirror…..O the joys of owning horses…. and I havnt even got around to mentioning some of the antic that Shamous can get himself into without trying hard…
Anyway back to the story… as said it was a very wet day, and after feeding and tending the horses needs Mandy and I piled back into the old ute for the return journey home…
Turning onto the country road and gaining a bit of speed which was a novelty as the ute was the kind of transport that was built for comfort, not speed.. well actually there wasnt a lot of comfort either….
Anyway attaining the dizzy land speed record of around 70k and concentrating on my driving, all of a sudden I was loudly shouted at to make an emergency stop…. and I mean emergency…..
Looking over to where Mandy was yelling from I witnessed the problem….
A very large spider had decided to do a bungy jump from the utes sun visor down and unfortunately had picked a spot directly in front of “her in doors” who just happens to be very scared of such monsters..
The spider had let out about half a metre of tail rope and was dangling on the end when the call came through…I dutifully slammed on the brakes causing the spiders intended route straight down to become one where he found himself violently swinging towards the cars windscreen and he hit it with such force, that I said to Mandy I bet he got a headache…..meanwhile as the ute slowed to within 10 to 15 k, Mandy had quickly gathered her handbag, opened the door and jumped out, with muffled wording to the likes of GET THAT THING OUT OF HERE……
It didnt seem to matter that it was raining heavily outside, she wasnt going to get back in until I had INCY WINCY Spider and all of his “accessories” safely removed….. It was so funny….. ( but not from Mandys perspective..!
