A day out with a couple of our horses….!

A day out at Lake Tennyson, on the edge of the St James Conservation Park, North Canterbury..

A day ride with a couple of our horses, this time myself on Shae and Mandy riding Lofty, who is an ex race horse, having won quite a considerable amount of winnings during is racing career, then was bought by a vine yard owner who wanted a horse to tow a trailer with spray gear on, however Lofty only being used to running a race track took off, smashing the trailer, some fences and himself… After this we heard he was basically pushed out to fend for himself on some riverbed, where upon a lovely kind lady caught him and took him back to live with her..

Mandy was looking for a new horse, of which this lady had two, but the owner wouldnt sell just one, so we ended up with a second…

Not too long after owning Lofty we overheard someone saying Lofty would never make a trekking horse… well folks see what you think in the below video clip..

So this day we had floated the horses up from a little hut we were staying in further down the valley for this week off, with the intent of conducting a number of separate day rides in this area..

The historic horse and stock pack track has become a tad overgrown in places but we made it from the southern start end of the lake right up to the top flats above the lake where upon we sat down under some beech trees admiring the fantastic view and enjoyed some fresh egg sandwiches that Mandy had made earlier, along with a bottle each of sunburnt lemonade…so sit back and enjoy the journey..!
