On the original boundary of Erewhon and Hakatere Stations lies this mountain hut, used in the early days by rabbit control staff, then later as a musters hut, before falling into disrepair for a number of years as it was discontinued as a farm use hut..DoC took over this land surrounding the hut and restored it to todays recreational use, by us horse riders, mountain bikers, hunters and trampers..
