Standing for well over a hundred years, this giant totara tree eventually died, presumably from old age or a drought period, but being such tough timber, it managed to weather the elements and remain standing….
Now here is an unusual thing… one, at first sight would say the tree is dead, but a closer look and half way up, a new and flourishing side branch is heading skyward.. INCREDIBLE..!
